Democracy
is NOT the election
of an Emperor,
a King,
a Supreme Ruler.
Democracy
recognises the danger of ONE person
wielding ALL of the power,
and is not a free mandate
to legislate unchallenged.
(that’s a dictatorship)
Democracy
is not about belittling, sidelining or destroying
ANYONE who disagrees with you,
until all that is left
are cronies who are afraid
to disagree with you.
Democracy
has a constitution
that preserves the integrity of the system,
and has essential checks and balances,
to ensure future generations
can live in a humane society
that treasures political, religious and cultural freedom.
Democracy,
regardless of party line or ideology,
is a set of principles
which must be safeguarded,
because if the principles fall,
the society falls…

I agree that that is how things SHOULD be. Unfortunately, the checks and balances are enforced by….hmm…oh yeah…no one. He’s already gotten away with terrible things and he fires anyone who even mentions that he’s doing something wrong. No one is stopping him from doing anything…no one is stopping his family either. So…the way things should be and the way things are…are two different things. If the laws, and rules, don’t matter, then they don’t have any power…they don’t matter.

Thanks for your thoughts and I totally agree with you. I was attempting to define what democracy ought to be – but whether what’s happening in America right now is “democracy”, is debatable… is he acting like an elected dictatorship? Will the system (and judicary) fight back to preserve the constitution? Lets hope the people who can make a difference, do so, and ensure that democracy prevails…

I have been waiting for someone, or a group of senators, to stand up to him. Someone who has any kind of power to do so, but no one has stepped forward. It’s more than shocking and disappointing. Apparently, from what I’ve read…he goes after their entire families and has even had children kicked out of their schools, if he gets angry at someone. His own extended family members are afraid to speak out because he will destroy them. I don’t understand why he can disregard the Constitution anytime he pleases and no one does a single thing except say that he did it. It’s unbelievable. The system obviously DOES NOT WORK. How is that possible? Now we are paying a fortune to let his wife and son live in NY so the child can go to school. He’s costing us a fortune and he’s destroying the country. We are at the top of the list in countries with the most “human rights violations!” Horrifying.

I live in the UK so I only have an outsider’s view point – but there is no doubt this is an explosive presidency with repercussions for the rest of the world…

I am going to trust the system to check and balance itself out. There are people who know the workings of the system and keeping a close watch.
